Early morning sight over the Karavan |
After packing the Kimberley Karavan, we moved off to again visit the Coffee Works Cafe. You guessed it, for our morning cappuccino. Before we could get in, as it was early, we made several phone calls. One call was to our friend Ron near Uralla. We had to brag about the nice warm day we were having. The other call was to our former farm finance consultant, Ross, who is seriously battling cancer and is in St. Vincents Hospital in Sydney. He said he enjoys my calls.
After our coffees, we adjourned into the tasting area to finalise our taste testing of various blends that are produced there. We settled for an Irish Cream blend and Vanilla and a Nicaraguan coffee. Also, we purchased a Chocolate Liqueur. All items are very tasty and can be purchased on line, too.
While at Coffee Works, we spoke with a couple from Inverell, Ian and Yvonne. They had worked and obviously knew several of our APEX 40 friends, John and Gai, who had also worked in Inverell years ago.
A short distance from Mareeba is Becks Museum. It is packed with a variety of military items from aircraft to smaller items. It is worth a visit to get an appreciation of items that have been used by the military.
Then we set off to the Rocky Creek Memorial Park. While there, we found the granite rock with the plaque attached that indicated 9th Division 2/3 Anti Tank Regiment that my father was a member of during the whole of World War II. This Sunday a celebration of VP (Victory Pacific) Day in recognition of the defeat of Japanese forces.
From Rocky Creek we drove on to the Big 4 Atherton Woodlands Tourist Park from where we will explore the area over the forthcoming days. This is another location that I stayed in last year.
After we set up the Karavan, we had our lunch and then made a trip into town. Our first stop was the Tourist Information Centre to obtain brochures for directions and information on places we may visit. While in that area we made a booking for each of us to have a massage on Tuesday. I will be having the same therapist I had last year, Emma. She did remember me from last year.
